Community Service
Philanthropy is an aspect of Delta Sigma Pi in which we take great pride in.
As a professional business fraternity, we believe that business has both a unique opportunity and a compelling duty to contribute to the community. Therefore, Delta Sigma Pi is dedicated to making a difference for the greater good of the community. The frequent community involvement instills brotherly values and camaraderie, all while developing our business skills.
There are a handful of community service events that Delta Sigma Pi enjoys to partake in every year. Every fall semester, Delta Sigma Pi partners up with one of our Faculty Brothers, Finance Professor Dina Layish, in giving back to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation Walk. We have witnessed the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation Walk prosper every year; this past walk was the most successful event yet, raising over $67,000 for the foundation. During the spring semester, the brothers of Delta Sigma Pi always participate in Relay for Life, to support the cancer society. Furthermore, at least once a semester, Delta Sigma Pi cleans up along our adopted portion of the highway in the Adopt-a-Highway program.
During this past spring 2010 semester, we co-hosted two successful community service events. The first philanthropy event was a collaboration with KPMG to co-adopt a portion of Vestal Parkway trough the Adopt-a-Highway program and the second event was a campus-wide blood drive with the professional pre-medicine fraternity, Phi Delta Epsilon.
This upcoming fall 2010 semester, we are currently in the process of planning two more large scale philanthropy events. We will be co-hosting a community service event with Deloitte, as well as, a campus-wide blood drive with an organization called InterVarsity Christian Fellowship.
Participating in community service helps build bonds between those whom you are working with, which in turns improves your ability to work in a team. Teamwork allows people with common aspirations to attain uncommon, yet profound results. It becomes apparent that every community service event hosted by Delta Sigma Pi provides both the brothers and students a hands-on experience, allowing for more engaged and enthusiastic participation by all. The Brothers here at Delta Sigma Pi thoroughly enjoy serving its community and we will continue to serve our community to the best of our abilities. We hope to see you at our events!
With all this said, Delta Sigma Pi is constantly looking for fresh and creative ways to give back to the community. If you have any ideas, would like to see an event happen in the area, or want to partner with us in a philanthropic endeavor, do not hesitate to contact our Vice President of Community Service, Vivian Chiang at vchiang1@binghamton.edu.
